As a fellow monolid woman (although I'm Asian American, not Asian Canadian), I see a lot of myself in what you wrote. Yet you're lucky your mom was so supportive of your natural beauty.

My mom and all my aunts pressured me regularly to get eyelid surgery. "You'd be so much prettier if you got surgery" was a constant "compliment" in my house. My mom even offered it as a high school graduation present, which I turned down.

I wrote about it here: https://medium.com/atta-girl/youre-not-pretty-but-you-re-attractive-a5b979bcf788
