Congrats on doing so much yourselves! It’s a wonderful feeling of accomplishment (in addition to the delights of saving money). I know the feeling, but on a much smaller scale.
We bought a bank-owned home near my husband’s favorite lake. It also has good bones. However, before the foreclosure, the former owners stripped it of everything but the built-in stuff (e.g., they left the carpet, flooring, kitchen cabinets, sinks, bathtubs, and toilets). This meant we had to install all new lights(bathroom lights, dining room light, and kitchen lights), ceiling fans, window coverings, mirrors, towel bars, thermostat, etc. I taught myself how to wire fixtures and didn’t electrocute myself at all!
I bought a bunch of items off Craigslist (I wish I had known of Habitat for Humanity’s store!) and a few items on sale from local stores. It took many months but I always beam with pride when I look at the two chandeliers I installed, the 4 ceiling fans, every single light fixture, etc. YouTube really has been an incredible tutor.
Congrats to you and your family!
