I agree. I think it’s a cultural practice of commenting on girls’ appearances that starts young. Even women do it. Every time I met my parents’ friends, they had to comment on something about my appearance. “Oh, Anna, you’re so tall” became a common observation as no one ever said, “You’re so pretty.” I deliberately make sure to comment on something else when I meet kids, “I love your purple shoes! That’s my favorite color.”
