I agree with you and particularly agree with Liz’s point that if you want to sit next to someone like your kid, perch at your computer right at 24 hours before boarding to check in early. Or, if you’re not too frugal like I was when traveling with kids, just pay extra for the seat choice or “early bird” check in. I am so sorry you had such an unpleasant flight. So cringey!
