I'm the daughter of Chinese immigrants and can be so loud when talking with my family that my husband says he gets a headache. He's a 5th generation Chinese American, so more similar to "mainstream" Americans who moderate their voices and patiently wait to talk.

I don't know what it is about certain sub-cultures, but it's definitely an adjustment when a loud talker who interrupts (like me) marries a quiet talker who hates interruptions! I've had to adjust my natural communication style in the workplace and at home, but it comes back when I speak to my parents1
