Many surrounding cities have this issue (like Palo Alto near the Stanford Hospital) and no one has come up with a good solution. I have read of folks (e.g., nurses and other folks with jobs but not the tech salaries) who live in their RV 3-4 days/week and then head back to their house 3+ hours away in Central California on the remaining days when they're not working. There are also those who commute 4 hours round-trip each day (or at least they used to). The exorbitant cost of housing and the concentration of jobs here means people do what they have to do to work.
