Oh wow, I am so sorry you had to suffer for so long when the treatment is so straightforward! Your medical practitioner's deliberate indifference to what clearly were significant symptoms and family history, let alone your blood tests, is appalling.

It reminds me how aggressive patients have to be with some doctors. I recall how my primary care physician 20 years ago tried to downplay my borderline high cholesterol (despite extensive family history of it) and was reluctant to even order an annual test to monitor it. I pushed hard to get it and then switched insurance plans to get a better level of medical care.

I feel privileged to have had the funds to upgrade to a more expensive insurance plan. It has made all the difference as I've never had to "pressure" my doctor to test me annually for conditions that I already knew I had a predisposition to (my dad has been more forthcoming about his conditions than my mom!).

Thank you for sharing your story.
