Reading about your experience makes me think of my parents. They immigrated here and left most of their family back in Asia. They eventually sponsored all their parents and siblings to immigrate here, but some declined to stay. It's hard making a life in a new country, new culture, and new language.
My parents tried to take us (the American-born kids) back every 2-3 years but it was always so expensive (since we could only travel when school was out). At some point, we stopped going back to visit and my parents only went back for funerals.
An immigrant's life is often about leaving the familiar (whether you were pushed out or pulled here). I hope the sacrifices are justified.
