Shani (SHAY-NEE!), I feel you. I think people who have had their name butchered are FAR more likely to try harder to learn the correct pronunciation of others' names.
I have an easy name but I grew up with a dad who kept his Anglicized Chinese name. He eventually just switched to initials as NO ONE could pronounce it even thought it's very easy (e.g., only two syllables, like Lee Chang).
I will never understand how people can be so rude as to ask, "Is there something else I can call you?" when they can't pronounce your name. "No. Call me by my name. It's not that hard to learn how to pronounce it."
If people can learn how to say Arnold Schwarzenegger, they can figure out Shani.
