Thank you for sharing your story, Julia. This is what I feared--that the socialization pressure many girls face suppresses their fearlessness, their risk-taking, and their exuberance for life.

Yet I also recognize some kids aren't wired to be "big and bold." I always want to encourage my kids to be who they are and yet I also want to remain aware of whether I'm subconsciously pressuring them to be "good girls." I feel like much of my childhood focus was on being a good girl who made her family proud.
