That's true that my personal experience doesn't mean there aren't exceptions. I've only met thousands of people, not millions, so it's possible that some straight men and women have platonic friends for whom neither one ever had any interest in something more. I've seen plenty of friendships where one friend DEFINITELY wanted something more and the other friend did not. It's rare when BOTH friends want a relationship at the same time. I think it's even more rare when neither friend wants anything EVER throughout the friendship. I would have agreed with you if you asked me junior year of college, when I had been purely platonic friends with a guy since freshman year and neither he nor I ever seemed interested in each other. But then he became interested our senior year, I pulled back, and then he pulled me back in and we did start dating.
