Yes! I remember hanging out with the neighborhood kids in the 80s, taking off on our bikes without any restrictions on where we could go. My brother and his friends would ride to the arcade and I might go hang out at the local park with my friends. Then the media started reporting on kids being kidnapped and I feel like that triggered a heightened level of parental scrutiny.

I know I've met some kids (boys and girls) who seem very low-key and mild-mannered, but I haven't been around as many high energy young girls where you have to make a big effort to burn off their energy. That's what initially made me wonder if it was just an inherent personality thing.
